Rockstar games have always been judged as much by their side content as their main storylines, and GTA 6 seems set to continue that tradition with a wide range of optional activities scattered across Leonida. While the main story following Jason and Lucia will likely take center stage, trailers have hinted at plenty to do outside of it.
Beach volleyball, jet ski races, and casual social hubs shown in early footage suggest Rockstar is leaning into Vice City’s laid-back, sunny culture as a backdrop for side activities. This fits the tone of the setting far better than the business-suited world of Los Santos, giving players lighter, more relaxed diversions between story missions.
Random encounters also appear to be returning in a bigger way. NPCs with their own small stories, unexpected events triggered while driving through certain neighborhoods, and side characters who reappear later in unpredictable ways have all been part of Rockstar’s formula since GTA 4, and nothing suggests that’s changing here.
There’s also reason to expect deeper criminal side hustles beyond the main heists, things like small-time drug running, chop shops, or protection rackets that let players build up cash and reputation outside of scripted missions. These kinds of systems gave GTA 5 significant replay value, and Leonida’s larger map likely means even more room for this kind of content to breathe.
Exact details will stay under wraps until closer to launch, but based on what’s been shown so far, side content in GTA 6 looks set to be as varied and unpredictable as anything Rockstar has built before.
