Companion apps have become common for major live-service and open-world games, letting players check stats, manage inventories, or plan sessions without booting up the full game. Given the scale of GTA Online’s economy over the years, speculation has grown around whether Rockstar plans something similar for GTA 6.
Past Rockstar releases offer some precedent here. GTA 5 shipped with an iFruit companion app that let players customize vehicles and manage certain in-game features from a phone, while a separate Snapmatic app allowed sharing in-game photos more easily. Neither tool became essential to the experience, but both showed Rockstar’s willingness to experiment with second-screen features.
If GTA 6’s online component ends up as ambitious as GTA Online eventually became, a companion app could serve practical purposes beyond novelty. Managing properties, tracking businesses, or checking in on ongoing criminal operations remotely would align with how other live-service games have used companion tools to keep players engaged between sessions.
There’s also a marketing angle worth considering. A companion app released ahead of launch could serve as an early touchpoint for hype building, similar to how some studios use pre-launch apps to reveal customization options or build anticipation through limited access features before a game ships.
Nothing official has been confirmed, and Rockstar hasn’t hinted directly at a companion app for GTA 6. Still, given the franchise’s history and the online component’s likely scope, it wouldn’t be surprising if some version of this idea eventually surfaces closer to release.
