Vehicles have always played a defining role in the Grand Theft Auto experience, and Leonida’s varied landscape sets up GTA 6 to offer one of the most diverse vehicle rosters the series has ever seen. From swamp airboats to sleek Vice City sports cars, the setting itself practically demands variety.
Trailer footage has already shown glimpses of classic muscle cars, motorcycles, and boats weaving through Leonida’s waterways and city streets. Given the state’s Florida-inspired design, expect water-based transportation to play a bigger role than it did in GTA 5’s Los Santos, where boats were useful but rarely central to core gameplay.
Handling mechanics are one of the biggest question marks heading into launch. GTA 5’s driving physics, while beloved by many, have been compared unfavorably to more simulation-leaning titles released in the years since. Rockstar has an opportunity here to refine vehicle handling using lessons learned from Red Dead Redemption 2’s more grounded approach to movement and physics.
Customization is another area fans are watching closely. GTA Online expanded vehicle customization significantly over the years since GTA 5’s original 2013 release, and there’s a reasonable expectation that GTA 6 will build directly on that foundation rather than starting from scratch, offering deeper modification options across a wider range of vehicle types from day one.
Leonida’s mix of urban density, rural roads, and coastal terrain also opens the door for more varied vehicle-based mission design. Chases that shift from city streets to swampland or open water could offer a level of variety GTA 5’s more uniform Los Santos map struggled to match consistently.
While Rockstar hasn’t confirmed a full vehicle list, the environmental storytelling in released footage strongly suggests transportation will be a central, carefully considered part of the GTA 6 experience rather than an afterthought.
