Leonida’s larger, more varied map presents interesting possibilities for online modes. Monetization is likely to remain a significant part of the online experience, following the same shark card model that made GTA Online enormously profitable. Whether Rockstar adjusts this system for GTA 6 or carries it over largely unchanged remains one of the more closely watched aspects of the upcoming multiplayer mode.
Cross-platform play is another area fans are hoping to see addressed, given that GTA 6 will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S simultaneously. Many other major multiplayer titles have adopted cross-play in recent years, and its absence would likely draw criticism from a community accustomed to playing with friends regardless of platform.
Rockstar has stayed quiet on multiplayer specifics so far, likely saving major online reveals for closer to launch. Given the scale of GTA Online’s success, though, GTA 6’s online mode is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated multiplayer launches in gaming history.
