Leonida, the fictional state at the heart of GTA 6, wears its Florida inspiration proudly. Rockstar has never hidden the connection, and longtime fans have spent months mapping out which real cities and landmarks likely shaped the in-game world.

Miami is the obvious anchor point for Vice City, echoing the neon-soaked aesthetic the series first introduced back in 2002. But the broader map appears to pull from much more than just one city. Coastal towns reminiscent of the Florida Keys, swampy wetlands similar to the Everglades, and small-town Americana echoing the state’s rural interior all seem to have found their way into the game’s design.

Fans have pointed to specific details in trailer footage that mirror real Florida quirks: roadside alligator attractions, strip-mall sprawl, and the distinct mix of luxury high-rises sitting a few miles from rundown trailer parks. That contrast between wealth and decay has always been part of Florida’s cultural identity, and it lines up with the kind of social commentary Rockstar has built its reputation on.

There’s also a practical angle to consider. Florida’s mix of dense urban centers, open highways, wetlands, and beaches gives Rockstar’s designers an unusually wide variety of terrain to work with inside a single state’s borders, which helps explain why the developer chose it as a template in the first place.

Whether or not every location has a one-to-one real-world match, the spirit of Florida is unmistakable in everything shown so far.
